About APPSC Group 1 Recruitment 2026
APPSC Group-I Services recruitment is one of the most prestigious competitive recruitments conducted by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission for appointment to senior administrative, police, revenue, finance and development positions in the State Government. A Group-I officer typically starts as a Deputy Collector, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Assistant Commissioner of State Tax, District Educational Officer, Divisional Development Officer and so on, and moves up to the highest district and State level posts.
The 2026 recruitment covers 13 categories of posts with 166 vacancies. - Horizontal reservation applies for Women (33 1/3%), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PBD) and Meritorious Sports Persons (3%, as per G.O.Ms.No.56 GA (Ser-D) dated 15.05.2026). Horizontal reservation cuts across vertical reservation, so a selected candidate is placed in his or her own category (SC / ST / BC / EWS / Unreserved).
- PBD reservation is not applicable for Post Codes 03 and 04. For PC 02 it is restricted to HH and OH only, for PC 06 to HH only and for PC 10 to OH only.
- PBD means not less than 40% disability certified by a medical authority. Categories: blindness and low vision; deaf and hard of hearing; locomotor disability (including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy); autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; and multiple disabilities.
- BC-E reservation (Muslim backward classes) is subject to the outcome of litigation before the Hon’ble Courts.
- BCs, SCs, STs and EWS belonging to other States are not entitled to reservation or fee exemption.
- Candidates claiming reservation must produce all certificates in the prescribed format by the closing date. Certificates must be in the name of the applicant with father / mother / legal guardian’s name.
Certificates Required for Reservation
- BC candidates: Non-Creamy Layer certificate from the Tahsildar issued on or after 01.04.2026 (after completion of FY 2025-26) and not later than the closing date of application. Without it on the day of verification, the benefit of reservation will be lost.
- EWS candidates: EWS certificate issued by the Tahsildar in digital format only, based on income for FY 2025-26, issued on or after 01.04.2026. EWS means gross annual family income below ₹8.00 lakh and not covered under SC, ST or BC reservation.
- SC / ST / BC: Community certificate from the Revenue Authorities not below the rank of Tahsildar (G.O.Ms.No.58, SW (J) Dept dated 12.05.1997). For SC reservation, persons professing a religion other than Hinduism are not treated as SC, but SC converts to Buddhism are deemed SC.
- A subsequent claim for change of community will not be entertained under any circumstances.
Local Candidate Rules, Multi-Zones and Zones
The Presidential Order 2025 (read with G.O.Ms.No.45 GA (SPF&MC) dated 20.04.2026) governs local reservation. As per Para 13.5, the provisional list is divided into two parts: the first part has 5% of posts filled on combined merit of locals and non-locals, and the second part has the balance 95% of posts for locals only. Local reservation is not applicable to Post Code 04 because it is a State cadre post.

- Screening Test (Objective, OMR): two papers; used only to shortlist candidates. Candidates admitted to the Main Examination will be 50 times the number of vacancies, irrespective of communities.
- Main Written Examination (Descriptive): Telugu and English qualifying papers plus five merit papers of 150 marks each.
- Interview (Personality Test): 75 marks; eligible candidates are called in the ratio of 1:2 with reference to the number of vacancies.
- Candidates must appear in all papers of the Screening Test and of the Main Examination; absence in any paper leads to disqualification.
- The final selection is based on merit in the Main Written Examination and Interview (G.O.Ms.No.100 GA (Ser-A) dated 30.09.2022).
- The Commission may fix minimum qualifying marks in the Screening Test and may relax standards for SC, ST, BC or PBD candidates if sufficient candidates from these categories are not likely to qualify (G.O.Ms.No.5 dated 05.01.2018).
- Tie-break: if candidates have equal marks in the Mains, the older candidate is ranked higher; if the age is the same, the candidate who obtained the educational qualification earlier is preferred.
- There is no waiting list. Recruitment is made only against notified vacancies.
- Post and Multi-Zone / Zone preferences are taken online before the Mains and again at certificate verification (the latter is mandatory and final). Preferences are only indicative and do not give any right to a particular post or zone.
- Appointment is subject to medical fitness, character and antecedents verification.
