โ Educational Qualification for India Post GDS 2026
- 10th Pass (Secondary School Examination)
- Must have passed Mathematics and English
- Must have studied local language up to Class 10
- Board must be recognized by Govt. of India / State Govt.
Primary Requirement:
- Secondary School Examination (SSE) pass certificate of 10th standard with passing marks in Mathematics and English
- Examination must be from a recognized Board of School Education by Government of India/State Governments/Union Territories
Local Language Requirement:
- Candidate must have studied the local language at least up to 10th standard from a recognized board
- Local language requirements vary by state/circle (refer to Annexure-III in the notification)
Special Provisions:
- Arunachal Pradesh: Candidates must know both English/Hindi (studied up to 10th) and any of the 23 tribal local languages/dialects notified by the state government
- Goa: Candidates must have studied Konkani or Marathi at 10th standard level. Those who studied only Marathi must possess proficiency in Konkani (certificate required from Goa Konkani Akademi)
- Sikkim: Candidates must know English and any one of 12 languages (Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Limbu, Newari, Rai, Gurung, Mangar, Sherpa, Tamang, Sunuwar, or Bhujel) studied at 10th standard
Other Qualifications
Candidates must possess:

The selection is based on a merit-based system without any written examination or interview.
- No written exam
- Selection based on Class 10 marks
- Marks calculated up to 4 decimal places
- Grade/CGPA converted automatically by system
- Tie-breaking based on age, category & gender priority
- Final selection after document verification
Merit Calculation:
- Based on 10th Standard Marks: Candidates are shortlisted based on marks obtained in Secondary School Examination (10th standard) aggregated to percentage with accuracy up to 4 decimal places
- Grade to Marks Conversion: For candidates with grade-based marksheets:
- Grade points will be converted using a multiplication factor of 9.5
- CGPA will be multiplied by 9.5 to arrive at percentage
- Higher value will be considered where both percentage and grades are given
- Special Case โ Tamil Nadu 2020-21: Candidates who received only pass certificates (no marks due to COVID-19) will be awarded uniform 66.67%

In case of equal marks, preference will be given based on:

GDS employees receive emoluments in the form of Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) with annual increment of 3% (subject to conditions).

Q1: Can I apply for multiple divisions?
No, you can apply for posts in only ONE division, though you can give preferences for multiple posts within that division.
Q2: Is there any written exam or interview?
No, selection is purely merit-based on 10th standard marks. No exam or interview is conducted.
Q3: What if I have only grades and no marks in my 10th certificate?
